India | Trade Mission with Demissionary Minister President Rutte

Interested in enhancing your partnerships with the Indian healthcare market? Join the trade mission to India. Demissionary Prime Minister Mark Rutte intends to join part of the mission (subject to confirmation).

When: 10-14 September 2023
Where: Bangalore and Hyderabad (TBC), India
For: Dutch organisations active in MedTech. The programme of this mission can be of relevance for organisations interested in collaborating in the public healthcare system.

Why India and this mission?

There are 3 main reasons to join this trade mission:

1. Fast-growing MedTech sector importing internationally

India’s medical technology sector is about $11 billion in size. The total industry is growing at a rate of 10 to 12% (CAGR) each year. Of this growth, 75% comes from imports. This offers opportunities for Dutch companies that want to do business in India, especially within private hospitals.

2. Progressive government policies for the growth of the MedTech sector

With its recently approved National Medical Devices Policy, India aims to place the medical devices sector on an accelerated path of growth with a patient-centric approach to meet the evolving healthcare needs of patients. On the one hand, the programme is intended to facilitate the growth of the medical device industry by streamlining regulation, stimulating innovation, and setting up centers of excellence. On the other, (new) Dutch players coming to the Indian market should be aware of the push for Made in India and consider teaming up with local (production) partners as part of their market entry strategy. For instance, to find the right balance between, quality, volume, and price level appropriate for the Indian market. Various schemes for the promotion of medical device manufacturing exist. India’s strength in low-cost innovation provides opportunities for the Dutch companies to co-create at a scale that could be attractive for global markets across areas such as robotics, minimally invasive techniques and other innovative med-tech solutions.

3. Increasing implementation of digital healthcare solutions

India has introduced digital healthcare very quickly due to the corona pandemic. Care at a distance and patient-oriented care also receive a lot of attention. Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) aims to connect digital health solutions between hospitals. ABDM offers opportunities for Dutch organisations to deliver or co-create solutions with Indian partners.

During the mission, Dutch participants will become acquainted with important MedTech players in Bangalore and Hyderabad (tbc). These are private hospitals and hospital associations, incubators and accelerators, and possible other partners such as major employers covering healthcare services. If participants joining the mission are interested in collaborating in the public healthcare system in India, key representatives from the New Delhi government working in this sphere will be invited to the sessions in Bangalore.

The presence of minister(s) in this trade mission allows you to establish and expand contacts at a high level. You can also sign potential contracts, a letter of intent or a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in their presence, creating extra visibility for your project or investment.
