Expo 2025 Osaka: Japan Life Sciences & Health Mission
Last week, we had the opportunity to take part in the Japan Life Sciences & Health Mission, with over 60 participants from Dutch companies, knowledge institutions, and government. For Task Force Health Care (TFHC), the highlight of this visit was the Japan Health Exhibition in Osaka, an official event affiliated with EXPO 2025 Osaka Kansai and part of the NLExpo2025 programme.
What we did
For three days, our pavillion provided a central meeting point for discussions with Japanese and international healthcare stakeholders. It was valuable to exchange perspectives on shared challenges, such as ageing populations and workforce shortages, and to highlight how the Netherlands approaches topics like healthy ageing, digital health, regmed and sports & vitality. Japan’s focus on innovation and person-centred care offered meaningful insights.
Proud to have collaborated with Philips at the exhibition and showcasing the Netherlands LSH sector as a well-connected metropolis! It’s collaborations like these that lay the groundwork for long-term international partnerships focused on health rather than disease.
Some of the key activities included:
- Hosting and facilitating meetings in the Netherlands pavilion with key International and Japanese stakeholders
- Supporting the official opening of the Philips and Netherlands pavilions alongside government and industry representatives
- Providing a platform for Dutch organizations to showcase innovations in digital health, regenerative medicine, sports & vitality, and healthy ageing
Key Takeaways
Through our participation in the exhibition and related activities, we gained valuable insights into the Japanese health ecosystem and opportunities for future collaboration. A few highlights:
- Shared healthcare goals: Japan and the Netherlands face similar pressures and are both committed to sustainable, people-centered healthcare.
- Physical presence matters: Having a visible and welcoming pavilion made it easier to connect, explore partnerships, and create trust.
- Public-private partnerships are key: The strength of the Dutch delegation came from its mix of government, industry, and academia working together.
- Prevention is the future: The shift from treating disease to promoting long-term health is a common theme and a key area for collaboration.
What’s Next?
Now that we’ve returned from Japan, our focus is on continuing the momentum built during the Japan Health Exhibition. We are confident that this exhibition has laid a strong foundation for long-term collaboration between Japan and the Netherlands.
