Connecting Amsterdam and the world Amsterdam
Amsterdam Trade opens doors for Dutch trade and industry abroad, bolstering Amsterdam’s status as an international business location and an innovative, cosmopolitan city.
International Amsterdam
The Amsterdam Metropolitan Area is attracting international attention and is setting trends as a creative, innovative metropolis that’s home to a wide variety of international companies. The region also benefits from many existing international ties. Local trade and industry can benefit immensely from this international connectivity. More international trade leads to economic growth; economic growth and flourishing small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) mean more jobs in the region. We thus create an international stimulus for local trade and industry.
Helping local businesses internationalise
Amsterdam Trade promotes the interests of Dutch SMEs abroad, acting as a neutral partner without a profit motive. Its work is especially helpful when it comes to generating status and momentum during international visits. It opens doors for trade and industry faster and at a higher level, particularly in markets where the government plays an important role in business (such as Japan, India and China).
Partners of Amsterdam Trade
Amsterdam Trade supplements the support that’s already available from organisations such as amsterdam inbusiness, StartupAmsterdam and the Amsterdam Economic Board. Five municipalities in the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area (Amsterdam, Almere, Amstelveen, Haarlemmermeer and Zaanstad) and the Province of Noord-Holland are cooperating to improve the involvement of local SMEs in the existing international interest and relations.
Trade missions
Amsterdam has connected many visiting delegations from a variety of countries with local businesses and has also been the joint organiser of numerous trade missions abroad. In autumn 2015, Amsterdam Trade was one of the organisers of a mission to Japan (9-13 November) and one to Morocco (24-27 November). In November 2016, a successful visit to India of delegates of 15 participating companies took place, organised in collaboration with India Connected. In the same month, 13 businesses from the Smart City Network were part of Amsterdam Smart city’s trade fair visit to the Barcelona Smart City Expo. Most recently, representatives of 80 companies travelled to Bavaria in Germany for a two-day visit. The companies were from Amsterdam, Utrecht and Hilversum and are active in the fields of urban mobility, e-health and digital media.
