What is the SMM LSH United States? 

The SMM LSH US is a Strategic Multi-annual Market approach (SMM) coordinated by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) and Task Force Health Care (TFHC). It is a public-private approach to position Dutch LSH companies in the sub-sectors of digital health and MedTech. The geographical focus is on Texas and California, existing connections and strategic collaborations in the two states form a solid foundation for deepening the relations and scaling Dutch LSH organizations in the US. From December 2024 to December 2027, a broad variety of activities will be organized for Dutch LSH organizations to support with market entry and/or scale-up in the US 

What is the objective of the program? 

The overall objective of the SMM program is to improve the competitive strength of the Dutch LSH sector in the US and to contribute to the growth of the Netherlands as one of the strongest LSH hubs worldwide. To achieve this objective, an action plan with several complementary activities has been designed in close collaboration with the Dutch LSH sector. The activities have the aim to improve the positioning of the Dutch LSH sector, to foster economic growth, to attract foreign direct investment, and to strengthen research and development collaboration. 

Activities and relevant information 2025 

Activities include workshops/expert sessions, as well as outgoing and incoming missions to support Dutch LSH organizations with establishing sustainable collaborations and to gain relevant and up-to-date market/segment information. 

  • Los Angeles, United States – Life Sciences & Health Mission | 3-7 February  

Are you interested in the trends, developments, and opportunities in the LSH sector, specifically in Los Angeles? Then join our LSH mission to Los Angeles. During this visit, various stakeholders in Los Angeles will be visited, among others private hospitals and important health networks. This mission is designed for Dutch LSH organizations that are actively engaged in digital health, MedTech, and telemedicine sectors and are committed to expanding their presence in the US market. The registration for this mission closed on Friday 6 December, 2024.  

The United States presents significant opportunities for research, innovation, and expansion for Dutch Life Sciences and Health (LSH) companies. Collaboration between the Netherlands and the United States in LSH brings unmatched value, leveraging complementary strengths to drive innovation. The recent transition to a new Trump administration may bring policy shifts and reshape the business landscape. Join us for the USA Expert Session to receive valuable insights into these emerging challenges and opportunities.   

The Netherlands is quickly becoming the epicentre of global health innovation, and from 16 to 19 June, HLTH Europe will further solidify that reputation. With 5,000+ attendees from more than 50 countries, HLTH Europe is the perfect opportunity for Dutch health tech companies to expand their network and meet health providers, payers, investors, and government stakeholders from all over the world. The NL Pavilion – The Dutch Innovator Village – at HLTH Europe is the launchpad for Dutch startups and scaleups to showcase their innovations. During HLTH Europe, we hosted an incoming delegation with members from amongst others Texas Medical Center (TMC) and Cedars-Sinai.  

Texas offers a supportive ecosystem for MedTech and digital health innovation, making it an ideal hub for Dutch Life Sciences and Health (LSH) companies to expand. Our upcoming LSH mission to Texas will focus on the unique prospects available in the state.
