LSH Trade Mission Ukraine

In January 2026, TFHC co-organised the LSH Trade Mission to Ukraine in close collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Ukraine, and the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO). The mission was led by Secretary of State Aukje de Vries and Joost Klarenbeek, Special Envoy for Ukraine, and brought together a delegation of Dutch companies active in Life Sciences & Health and Energy for a multi-day visit to Kyiv.

The mission aimed to deepen our understanding of the Ukrainian healthcare system under extraordinary circumstances and to explore how Dutch public and private actors can contribute to sustainable healthcare solutions and long-term reconstruction.

Despite the challenging context, the mission provided a valuable opportunity to engage directly with Ukrainian ministries, healthcare institutions, international organisations, financial institutions, private sector partners and many other stakeholders.

Main Activities

During the mission, we worked closely with the Dutch companies and a broad range of Ukrainian and international  stakeholders.

Key activities included:

•High-level sessions with Ukrainian ministries and deputy-ministers, focusing on the current state and future direction ofhealthcare in Ukraine

•Engaging in policy and sector dialogues with organisations  such as: WHO, Medical Procurement Ukraine, and  the Ukraine Health Center on healthcare delivery, procurement and system development

•Holding discussions with international financial institutions including the WorldBank, EIB and IFC on financing mechanismsand the role of the private sector in reconstruction

•Exchanging insights with knowledge and advisory institutions such as Kyiv School of Economics, KPMG, EY and Cratia on healthcare reforms, governance, public-private partnerships and implementation challenges

•Visiting key healthcare institutions, including Feofaniya Hospital and Okhmatdyt Children’s Hospital, to gain firsthand insights into acute care, rehabilitation, paediatric care and infrastructure needs

•Facilitating matchmaking sessions between Dutch companies and Ukrainian partners, resulting in new contacts, project opportunities and concrete follow-up discussions

As co-organiser, TFHC played an active role in shaping the programme and moderating sessions, ensuring that discussions translated into practical insights and actionable next steps for both public and private stakeholders. We will use these as the basis for the public private platform for the healthcare recovery platform Ukraine.

Key Takeaways

The mission highlighted several important insights that will guide future engagement:
