Nedap Healthcare has a mission to create more time for care. We develop technology that supports hundreds of thousands Dutch care professionals in their daily work. Nedap Ons® is a comprehensive EHR solution that supports the entire care process, from intake and registration to care delivery and billing on location or on the go. Nedap MediKIT is a modern, cloud-based GP information system, designed to grow with general practitioners and their practices.
Our Story
As a leading software supplier of electronic health records in the Dutch healthcare market, we have achieved something remarkable. We have brought together all vendors in this market to ensure that software applications in healthcare can communicate seamlessly with each other. And we didn’t do this by investing in a network technology with a single supplier, or by letting one party manage all health data in the Netherlands. No, we have created a robust network that is accessible to everyone, without a central point of failure or a monopolist. It is a distributed model of communication, similar to the Internet. A network that is easy to access. The joint communication structure is open and standardised, and there are no (licence) costs involved. And best of all, an Open Source reference implementation is available. More information about this initiative can be found at nuts.nl.
The first success we have achieved thanks to the Nuts initiative is that healthcare professionals working in evening, night and weekend care who have to care for a client who is receiving care from another healthcare institution no longer have to log into another system. They can simply open their own dossier application to read and add medical information and reports, without realising that they are actually “working” in another system. A real breakthrough in the Dutch healthcare market.
Role of TFHC
Nedap Healthcare is exploring the possibility to expand its services beyond the Dutch borders. Through the partnership, we hope to identify the right opportunity by getting to know new markets, meet the actors in these markets, and to learn from other TFHC partners and their experiences.
Results & Next Steps
We are immensely proud that our SaaS solutions are used by over 2,000 care organizations and 400,000 care professionals in the Netherlands. We have a prominent position in Dutch elderly care, care for the handicapped, and mental healthcare. In addition, we have opened the technical ecosystem in long-term care, by allowing (250+) third parties to use all our APIs, and by founding Nuts, an open-source network (based on standards, such as HL7 FHIR and OpenEHR) that allows for reliable and secure medical data exchange. We would like to bring our SaaS services and our philosophy of open data exchange to new European markets.
