Partner Spotlight | Amref Health Africa

Amref Health Africa, formerly known as Amref Flying Doctors, is the largest African health organisation. With a structural, community-driven approach, Amref works to achieve lasting health improvements across the continent. Headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, and with most staff members being African, the organisation builds on deep cultural understanding to create appropriate, sustainable solutions.

Our Story

Amref Health Africa was founded as the Flying Doctors and has since grown far beyond its original image. For decades, the organisation has trained local healthcare workers to deliver long-term, community-driven improvements. To date, more than 500,000 health professionals have been trained across 35 countries.

The mission goes beyond healthcare delivery: Amref makes health services accessible to low-income communities, provides clean water, and educates people on issues such as hygiene and ending female genital mutilation. Girls and women are central to this mission, as healthy women often lift their families and communities out of poverty.

Role of TFHC

“TFHC has been a strong supporter of improving healthcare in Africa, and especially in Kenya. By organising partner events with workshops and networking opportunities, as well as thematic health missions to and from Kenya, TFHC has helped make the country more accessible for Dutch life sciences and health organisations. This creates a learning environment that benefits all participants.”

Results & Next Steps

Amref Health Africa NL has participated in several activities and missions organised by TFHC. These initiatives have always been conducted in an open, collaborative atmosphere that maximises value for participants, a true added benefit. TFHC remains accessible, proactive, and ready to facilitate new opportunities. A prime example of this is the successful Combi Track initiative, which continues to strengthen partnerships and impact.
