Big changes in healthcare have taken place and need to take place to strengthen healthcare systems globally. To get an inside perspective of these changes, our director Micha van Lin talks with Frans van Houten about his experiences in global healthcare developments as CEO of Philips for nearly twelve years. Frans, who will be retiring tomorrow the 15th of October, shares a valuable message for the future: “Change is inevitable. What worked in the past may not work in the future. I think we are at the cusp of transforming the whole sector of healthcare”.

We are very grateful to Frans for taking the time to share his experiences and his insights on the changes for the future with us. We recommend watching the full interview since it provides a lot of food for thought.

In this video, Frans points out that digitization and sustainability play a central role. It is essential that international partnerships are set up and maintained to work together on the resilience of the global LSH sector. TFHC contributes to this by providing support where necessary and regularly converging with its network to determine where its partners can benefit from the services they offer.

Digitization is one of the key factors and basically the application of informatics in healthcare. This unstoppable process provides the needed breakthroughs which reduce waste in the large sense of the word. Reducing waste in terms of human capacity, and administrative processes also translates into reducing waste in terms of the impact on the environment and therefore sustainability. Frans his vision is that sustainability thinking in healthcare is optimising capacity and not letting any capacity go to waste. This in essence means identifying areas within the existing processes that can be made more efficient and effective by implementing available and emerging technologies.

It is important for the Dutch LSH sector to do business internationally. Therefore, TFHC together with Health~Holland, organises the annual Health~Holland Visitors Programme. Here international participants get a good impression of the Dutch LSH sector. In the same week international ties can be further strengthened during the annual signature event of TFHC: World of Health Care.
