Partner Spotlight: Interoplab
Interoplab builds testing and validation infrastructure for healthcare interoperability. We help standards organizations, care providers and software vendors implement standards faster, lower the risk of failed integrations, and prove that complex health systems actually work together. We do this through two products: my.interoplab, a self-service platform with round-the-clock test environments that cover every phase from sandbox to peer 2 peer testing, and Conformancelab, which automates validation and certification for standards organizations. We work with HL7 FHIR, DICOM, IHE and openEHR, and we help organizations get ready for EHDS, the European Health Data Space. Interoplab is ISO 9001 and ISO 27001 certified.
Our Story
Healthcare data only moves safely when every system reads a standard the same way. In practice, conformance testing is often manual and slow, and vendors and standards organizations spend time discussing interpretation instead of exchanging data. With EHDS raising the requirements for data exchange across Europe, we wanted one objective way to test whether an implementation is compliant.
In my.interoplab, organizations run their own test environments around the clock, and Testlanes guide a participant step by step to prove that their system meets the requirements for a specific role, ending in a single combined report on the outcome. Conformancelab then automates the validation and certification: standards development organizations set up, manage and publish their own environment, and vendors get instant feedback and a self-certification path instead of waiting on manual reviews. Conformancelab now manages 3,148 FHIR TestScripts for 108 vendors and has run 18,725 tests at 100% uptime, and organizations can test fully in line with EHDS, HL7 FHIR and their own information standard.
Role of TFHC
TFHC connects us to the wider Dutch health sector and to international partners working on digital health and data exchange. Through the network we meet organizations that face the same standards and EHDS questions we work on, and we can share what we have learned building test infrastructure for Dutch healthcare.
We joined TFHC to grow beyond the Netherlands. The Dutch health system is one of Europe’s more advanced when it comes to national data exchange, and that experience is ahead of much of what Europe is now setting up under EHDS. Through the partnership we hope to reach healthcare organizations and vendors across Europe that need an independent, reliable way to test interoperability, and to help make automated conformance testing the European standard.
Results & Next Steps
Conformancelab is now used by standards organizations and vendors, and it has held 100% uptime since launch. We also run the testing and validation environment for the National Test and Validation Center, a national initiative of Nictiz, the Dutch competence centre for health information standards, and VZVZ, which operates the national healthcare data exchange. We have proven the same approach in other national programs too: MedMij, the national framework for personal health environments, where we handle vendor certification, and NIPT prenatal screening through Peridos, with the national public health institute RIVM. Across these programs, the clearest lesson is the same: automated, repeatable testing removes most of the interpretation debate that slows implementations down.
We designed the platform as true self-service, covering the interoperability lifecycle from first experiments to final validation. Next, we are extending it toward EHDS and other European standards, and we are looking for partners in other countries who want to run conformance testing on their own information standards. Our work centers on FHIR, DICOM and IHE validation, and on the EHDS transition now underway across Europe.
